Rod Eddington is Co-Chairman of J P Morgan’s Asia Pacific Council and non-executive Chairman of Lion.
Sir Rod is Chairman of Infrastructure Partnerships Australia, Chair of the Rugby World Cup Australia 2027 & 2029 Local Organising Committee and Inaugural Advisory Council Chair of the Australia-Japan Business Cooperation Committee, after having served as that organisation’s President from 2007-2021. He also sits as a non-executive director on a number of boards including Kirin Holdings and China Light & Power Holdings and is a member of the Mitsubishi Corporation Advisory Board. He served on the Rio Tinto Board from 2005 to 2011, was the inaugural Chair of Infrastructure Australia from 2008-2014 and was a member of the APEC Business Advisory Council from 2014-2020.
Educated as an engineer at the University of Western Australia and then Oxford University as Western Australia’s 1974 Rhodes Scholar (where he completed a DPhil), Sir Rod’s career began in transport and aviation and he went on to become CEO of Cathay Pacific, Ansett Airlines and British Airways, before retiring in late 2005 and returning to Australia.
In 2005, Sir Rod was awarded a Knighthood by the British Government for service to civil aviation, in 2012 was made an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for service to business and commerce and in 2015 was honoured by the Japanese Government with the Grand Cordon of the Order of the Rising Sun for his contribution to strengthening the economic relations between Australia and Japan.
Sir Rod has authored the Eddington Transport Study (a report to the British Government on transport’s role in sustaining the UK’s productivity and competitiveness) and Investing in Transport – East West Link Needs Assessment (a study undertaken for the Victorian Government into the best transport solutions for connecting Melbourne’s eastern and western suburbs).
