The AJBCC invites you to breakfast roundtable discussion on Japanese government's Green Transformation (GX) policy with special guest speaker, Dr Toshi Arimura, Faculty Fellow at the Research Institute of Economy, Trade and Industry (RIETI).
Background
In order to achieve the carbon neutrality target, the Japanese government has adopted the Green Transformation (GX) policy. As an essential element of the GX policy, Japan is introducing carbon pricing, including the GX-ETS and the GX Surcharge. GX-ETS, which started on a voluntary basis, will become mandatory in 2026. The GX surcharge will be imposed on imported fossil fuels after 2028. These new policy instruments will affect Japan's energy imports from Australia, which is an important element of GX policy for Japan.
